Frequently asked questions.
Where do lessons take place?
I teach guitar lessons at students’ homes in Stoke Newington and the surrounding areas. Lessons can also take place at my place in Stoke Newington.
Do I need my own guitar to start lessons?
You don’t need your own guitar to begin. I can provide one for lessons at my place in Stoke Newington. If you’d like to buy your own instrument, I can also give advice on choosing the right guitar to suit your goals and budget.
Do you offer online guitar lessons?
Yes. Online lessons via Zoom are available and provide the same personalised approach as in-person sessions.
Do you only cover in Stoke Newington?
As well as covering the N16 area, I also teach in nearby areas such as Hackney, Hackney Downs, Dalston, Clapton, and Newington Green.
Online lessons are available for those further afield.
Can I learn acoustic and electric guitar?
Yes you can learn both acoustic and electric guitar, depending on your interests. I also teach bass guitar, so if you’d like to explore rhythm and groove alongside guitar playing, that’s an option too.
Do you teach complete beginners as well as advanced players?
Yes. I teach students at every level.
Do you teach children as well as adults?
Yes. I teach both children and adults, and I adapt lessons to suit each student’s age, ability, and learning style.
What styles of music do you teach?
I teach various music styles to suit all interests and skill levels, including blues, rock, pop, folk, funk, and country. Lessons are tailored to your personal goals, whether you want technical precision or improvisational skills.
Do you prepare students for grades or exams?
I can help students prepare for grades and music exams, though I do not administer the exams or provide the official grades myself.
How often should I have lessons, and how long are they?
Lessons are typically available in 30, 45, or 60-minute sessions. Weekly lessons are recommended to maintain steady development, with the option of fortnightly sessions for flexibility. Scheduling is arranged to fit around personal availability, ensuring a tailored and convenient learning experience.
Can I book a trial lesson?
I don’t offer free trial lessons. With my experience as a guitarist and teacher, I am confident your first lesson will give you something of real value, so your first lesson will already provide new skills and a clear sense of my teaching approach.
How much do guitar lessons cost?
I’m happy to discuss lesson rates directly and can often accommodate different budgets depending on what you’re looking for. Please get in touch to chat through options and arrange a plan that works for you.
Do you offer discounts for block bookings?
Yes, I offer discounts for block bookings, though this is something we usually arrange further down the line once a good rapport and working relationship are established.
What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?
Cancellations made on the same day are charged in full due to high demand. If you need to reschedule, please give as much notice as possible so I can offer the slot to another student.
